The Technology


Nano-Shield is listed in the US Government’s EPA N-List and Health Canada’s List of disinfectants with evidence for use against SARS-CoV-2 , the virus that causes COVID-19.

The primary vector for the transmission of the Coronavirus is cross contamination, which is when an infected person touches or coughs on a surface which in turn infects others who touch it later. Doorknobs, handrails, countertops, or any commonly touched surface can become a source of disease in the home as well as public places.


Bac-Shield is an antimicrobial EPA registered product that inhibits the growth and odor of bacteria, mold, mildew and fungi on textiles and other treated surfaces.

Ordinary cleaners and disinfectants offer no protection to materials between treatments, leaving them vulnerable to recontamination. Bac-Shield helps control the source of contamination and resulting odors by preventing the growth of microbes.

Nano-Shield’s active ingredient is organic and silane based, making it a truly ‘Green’ product. It is colorless, odorless, non-leaching, and non-toxic releases no volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) and uses no harmful chemicals.

What is the ecological assessment of Bac‐Shield?

The EPA has deemed that Bac‐Shield’s key ingredient, Chitosan “poses negligible to non-existent ecological risk.” It is biocompatible, biodegradable, and virtually non‐toxic to humans and animals.

Is Bac‐Shield a biocide or biostatic?

Bac‐Shield is a biostatic as it inhibits the growth of bacteria.

What effects does Bac‐Shield’s key ingredient, chitosan, have on human health?

The Environmental Protection Agency deems acute dermal, acute oral, acute inhalation toxicity, and skin irritation as a Category IV, the lowest level of toxicity given by the EPA as the EPA does not certify antimicrobials as completely non‐toxic. Acute eye toxicity is accepted as level III as Bac‐Shield is a moderate eye irritant. Moreover, the EPA quotes, “Chitosan is so low in toxicity as to be considered virtually non‐toxic to humans and animals.”
